| Software Development Life Cycle |
The standard establishes a top-level architecture of the life cycle of software. The cycle begins with an idea or a feasibility study and analysis of underlying business processes that can be satisfied wholly or partly by software and ends with the retirement of the software. The processes within the life cycle are modular, which is to say an individual process is dedicated to a unique function with the overall processes flowing from one stage to the next and can flow in both directions, such that development can proceed to testing and then back to development again until the development-testing modules have been satisfied. A process is considered to be a major responsibility and is one of the key principles of total quality management in the life cycle process. The processes are grouped into three broad classes: Primary.
